Mindscapes (2019, 2021, 2022)
I believe that the role of the artist is to provide a response to the world that is processed in some way, as opposed to one that merely mirrors it.
In this regard, the Mindscape series is a translation of weighty contemporary themes into scapes by means of expressive, evocative marks. Meaning is layered through the marks, be they delicate or violent, solitary or repeated, saturated or dry, light or dark, slow or fast, long or short, and so on. I use uprooted alien plant material and weeds as the only tools for mark making, this being black ink on Fabriano paper.
Single work sizes are 70 x 50cm (sizes vary slightly).
Diptychs are 141 x 100cm.
